Job Summary
Manufacturing Engineer II for Weld and Tank supports the Tank & Weld Manufacturing Engineering team at Blue Origin's Kent, WA facility. You will develop and implement robust, cost-effective manufacturing processes for tanks and COPVs, lead troubleshooting of weld-related non-conformances (cracks, porosity, inclusions, undercut, incomplete penetration/fusion), interpret NDT/NDE results, translate complex drawings into execution-ready work instructions, drive root cause analyses and corrective actions, and contribute to DFMA and PFMEA efforts to improve manufacturability and reduce costs. Collaboration with design, test, operations, quality, and production teams to enable high-quality builds and continuous improvement is essential. Preferred qualifications include advanced degrees, additional aerospace welding experience, experience with various welding processes (FSW, EBW, GTAW/TIG, OTW, LBW), COPV filament winding, lean/Six Sigma, and proficiency in 3D CAD and welding standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial Engineering, or related field
- 3+ years of relevant experience
- Knowledge of structural mechanics principles
- Familiarity with NDT methods
- Experience with manufacturing, welding, fabrication, and assembly processes
- Proficiency interpreting 2D/3D engineering drawings and CAD models
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Hands-on, team-oriented mindset
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to build strong working relationships across cross-functional teams
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or approved refugee/asylum status
