Job Summary
Manufacturing Engineer II/Senior - Machining at Rocket Lab, based in Long Beach, CA. Contributes to design reviews as an expert in design for manufacture, design for machining, productivity, and quality control; selects, procures, and installs machine shop equipment with maintenance/calibration plans; develops in-house machining capability for Archimedes components and rapid iterations; designs, develops, and implements tooling and equipment for production to improve quality, delivery, and cost; drives continuous improvement and cost-reduction projects within the fabrication department; collaborates with other Rocket Lab machine shops for alignment and support; mentors less experienced engineers and machinists. This position can be hired at Manufacturing Engineer II or Senior Manufacturing Engineer level, with base salary range $100,000–$155,000 (CA). The role emphasizes machining, 3D CAD/CAM, GD&T, and development of production tooling for aerospace components, including Archimedes and Rutherford engine work.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, manufacturing engineering, or equivalent
- 2+ years of machine shop experience
- Experience in CAM software 3 and 5-axis CNC equipment
- Well versed in GD&T and inspection methods
