Job Summary
Manufacturing Engineer at AWF to design, maintain, and optimize automated control systems for wood-processing lines including shavings, pellet mills, dryers, conveyors, and packaging. Responsible for PLC/HMI/SCADA design and programming (Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider), closed-loop control strategies for moisture, feed rates, temperatures, and loads; commissioning, startup, and optimization of production lines; safety-compliant control systems per OSHA/NFPA; development of operator-friendly HMIs with alarms/diagnostics; documenting electrical schematics and automation; training operators/maintenance; supporting data collection for continuous improvement; occasional travel (~50% noted in posting) and working in a dusty industrial environment. Desired experience includes pellet mills, dust collection, moisture measurement technologies (NIR, microwave, RF), and capital-project execution.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Controls, or Automation Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years of automation or controls engineering experience
- Hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and industrial control systems
- Strong troubleshooting skills in continuous-process environments
