Job Summary
Operate and maintain manual machine tools including lathes, mills, grinders, and saws by setting up machines with proper feeds and speeds based on materials. Interpret blueprints, AutoCAD drawings, and verbal instructions to assemble machined components to final specifications. Follow safety procedures and obtain supervisor approval before machining, while communicating equipment issues and participating in maintenance when needed. Use measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers, along with setup tools like parallels and clamps, to ensure accuracy. Requires solid math and mechanical aptitude, metallurgy knowledge, and the ability to detect mechanical issues. Flexible hours including overtime and emergency jobs are necessary. Ownership of a machinist handbook is required; CNC experience is a plus.
Required Qualifications
- Must provide and accurately use measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.)
- Must have setup tools including parallels, clamps, wrenches, test indicators
- Ownership of a machinist handbook is required
- Solid knowledge of metallurgy and appropriate tool selection
- Strong math, mechanical aptitude, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to detect mechanical issues and maintain machine cleanliness
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including overtime and during emergency jobs
