Job Summary
Sets up and operates manual lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, saws and other machines to construct or repair metal parts. Works from factory work orders, prints, specifications, sketches or verbal instructions; uses machinists’ hand tools and measuring instruments; applies shop mathematics and knowledge of metals to meet required tolerances; ensures quality of work and maintains tooling and safety practices. May assist in machine repair, trains other operators, and completes timekeeping reports. Day shift; 37.62/hour with scheduled increases; 100% employer-paid benefits and strong pension contributions; operates in a Hamilton, ON facility.
Required Qualifications
- High school education plus 2 years technical training
- Over 5 years of experience in related or subordinate work
- 3-15 months on the job training
- Ability to understand and solve technical problems of average nature
- Ability to program graphical machine interfaces
- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently yet be team-oriented
- Able to lift up to 30lbs
- Knowledge of shop mathematics, charts and tables
- Experience with manual lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, saws
- Knowledge of carbon, aluminum, brass, and alloy steels
- Ability to follow safety practices and maintain equipment
- Ability to prepare time reports for timekeeping
