Job Summary
Manual Machinist 2 responsible for independently producing metal parts using manual lathes and mills, reading and interpreting measurements with precision tools, and upholding GEM Equipment quality standards. Role includes setup and tooling changes, basic machine maintenance, forklift operation, PPE compliance, training new employees, and maintaining a clean, safe work area. Emphasis on high-quality part production, ability to work independently, multitasking across multiple machines, and collaborating with supervisors and team members. This position has no management responsibilities and requires 3+ years of relevant experience with a strong focus on blueprint reading, precision measurement, and adherence to safety and quality documentation.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in a manual machinist role
- 3-5 years of experience operating manual machine tools including lathes and mills
- Proven experience reading and interpreting complex blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions
- Proficient in advanced blueprint reading and interpretation
- Capable of operating manual lathes and mills independently
- Experience using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators) to verify part accuracy
- Ability to complete inspection reports or job travelers as part of quality control documentation
- Familiarity with machining materials such as steels and aluminum
- Demonstrated ability to set up and change tooling to support production requirements
- Education: High School Diploma/GED equivalent; vocational training in Machining Technology or related field is a plus but not required
- Proficient in documenting processes and maintaining safety protocols
- Ability to maintain tolerances and inspect parts to specifications
- Prior involvement in team-based manufacturing environments
- Mentoring/training entry-level machinists preferred
- Certifications in forklift or OSHA 10 or 30 for safety awareness preferred
- Positive attitude, reliable attendance, and willingness to grow and continuous improvement
