Job Summary
Fabricate metal and plastic components by operating a variety of metal-cutting machine tools to produce good-quality parts from raw materials. Operate machine tools, working from blueprints and specifications to shape and thread parts to manufacturing tolerances while selecting feeds and speeds for cutting operations. Grind or dress cutting tools, perform mathematical computations, and utilize data sets and equipment manuals for various machines. Set up own machine, self-inspect parts to ensure specifications are met before sending to downstream processes, and complete job order forms. Maintain a clean, orderly work area, follow safety policies, and participate in Lean initiatives and process improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Vocational or on-the-job training in manual machining
- 3-5 years of experience operating manual machines
- Knowledge of a variety of tools and equipment such as engine and turret lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and assorted hand tools
- Ability to read blueprints and work to manufacturing tolerances
- Ability to make necessary machine shop math computations
- Ability to perform unassisted setups
- Ability to set up feeds, speeds, and tools
- Ability to use all precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, to perform in-process inspection of own work
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs
- Ability to stand for long periods of time (10+ hour shifts)
Desired Qualifications
- Experience Vocational or on-the-job training in manual machining and practices 3-5 years of experience operating manual machines preferred
