Job Summary

Setup and operate computer-controlled machines to grind metal workpieces, removing excess material or burrs from surfaces and sharpening edges. Inspect finished parts using gauges and micrometers to verify conformance to specifications, while measuring and laying out work with precision devices. Study blueprints and work orders to determine operational sequences, select appropriate tooling, and mount tools in chucks and spindles. Monitor machine operations to detect problems, make necessary adjustments, and analyze results to choose solutions. Provide information to supervisors and co-workers regarding production status and issues. Work 40 hours per week, which may include on-call status, evenings, and weekends.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Knowledge of trigonometry, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
  • The ability to quickly and repeatedly react and adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
  • The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
  • Position requires manual dexterity, multilimb coordination, near vision, rate control, arm-hand steadiness, deductive reasoning ability.
  • The ability to quickly and accurately compare similarities and differences among sets of letters, numbers, objects, pictures, or patterns.
