Job Summary
Managing Principal leads a business unit within HMC Architects, accountable for financial performance, operations, and strategic direction. This role drives business development, oversees project execution across all phases, manages key client relationships, and develops staff, while ensuring alignment with firm goals, quality standards, and long-term growth objectives. The position is located in San Jose, CA with a hybrid work arrangement (3 days in the office, Mondays and Fridays remote/half-days Fridays). Responsibilities include profitability, staffing, client proposals, project delivery, contract and budget management, risk and issue resolution, staff mentorship, cross-functional collaboration, and representing the firm through networking and industry involvement. Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, architectural license preferred, 15+ years of experience, strong leadership and communication skills, and proficiency with BIM/Revit and related tools.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or equivalent
- Architectural license strongly preferred
- Minimum 15+ years of experience in architectural practice, including project and team leadership
- Proven track record managing complex projects, teams, and client relationships
- Strong business development experience with demonstrated ability to win work and grow markets
- Proficiency in industry-standard software and tools (e.g., BIM/Revit, project management systems)
- Ability to travel as needed
