Managing Family Law Paralegal

Job Summary

Provide leadership and mentorship to Family Law paralegal and legal support staff while managing complex litigation from initial intake through trial. Coordinate caseloads, monitor deadlines, and allocate resources to ensure efficient progress on matters involving divorce, child custody, support, and domestic violence. Draft and review legal documents, analyze financial documentation, and coordinate discovery efforts. Assist attorneys and clients in preparing for mediations, depositions, hearings, and trials, serving as a trusted point of contact throughout each case. Prepare and file court documents in compliance with applicable rules and deadlines. Help establish departmental processes and support the onboarding and professional development of new staff. This role requires at least three years of Family Law experience with supervisory responsibilities and is based in Washington, DC, with a preference for on-site work or a hybrid schedule allowing occasional travel.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have Family Law experience in Washington, DC, Maryland, and/or Virginia
  • DC experience is strongly preferred
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a Family Law Paralegal
  • Comprehensive knowledge of family law litigation procedures and court processes
  • Excellent legal drafting, organizational, and case management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced litigation environment
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and client service skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail, professionalism, sound judgment, and initiative
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and legal case management software

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience supervising, mentoring, or managing paralegals or legal support staff
  • Previous supervisory, mentoring, or team leadership experience overseeing paralegals or legal support staff is strongly preferred
