Job Summary
Managing Director, People & Culture leads HR operations, policy, compliance, and employee relations for a multi-state wealth-management–adjacent organization. Drives talent management, performance oversight, and strategic advisory work for the executive team and Board. Will harmonize HR practices across states (CA, WA, NY) and build robust processes for onboarding, offboarding, performance management, leaves, and accommodations while shaping an inclusive, high-trust culture. Oversees a small People & Culture team, partners with Learning & Development, guides compensation and benefits strategy, and delivers Board-ready updates on people metrics and risk. Requires 10+ years in HR, deep employment-law knowledge in multiple states, and a track record of delivering practical, defensible guidance to managers and executives in a regulated, multi-site environment.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive HR experience with depth in employee relations, talent management and policy in complex, multi-site organizations
- Strong working knowledge of employment law in home state (CA for SF-based candidates or WA for Seattle-based candidates) and familiarity with other states where offices exist
- Hands-on experience harmonizing HR practices in organizations that have grown through merger
- Ability to communicate at the Board level and with executives; strong written work product
- Experience in financial services or wealth management is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a small People & Culture team and to coach managers
- Proven track record of delivering policy, process, and program improvements across multi-state operations
- Ability to manage in a fast-changing regulatory and competitive landscape
- Background and credit checks and pre-employment examinations compliance
