Job Summary

Managing Director, Ocean Marine Underwriting leads a team of underwriters responsible for profitability, growth, and retention of Ocean Marine business across a location or region. The role involves partnering with brokers and agents to provide coverage for new and renewal business, underwriting complex, high‐risk, or hard‐to‐close deals, negotiating terms, and developing sales strategies. Regular in‐person meetings with agents/brokers are required, with travel to client meetings. The incumbent provides strategic direction, coaching and performance management for the team, and collaborates with internal partners to identify cross‐selling opportunities. Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree, 8–10 years of underwriting experience (including field‐location management), strong knowledge of Ocean Marine products and regulatory environment, excellent negotiation and communication skills, and a CPCU designation. The role emphasizes leadership, risk assessment, and the ability to drive profitability in challenging markets.
