Managing Criminal Defense Paralegal

Job Summary
Manage, supervise, and mentor paralegal and legal support staff while overseeing day-to-day operations to ensure assignments and deadlines are effectively managed. Support attorneys throughout all stages of criminal litigation, from case intake and investigation through trial and post-trial proceedings, by organizing large volumes of discovery and case materials. Prepare and coordinate court filings, pleadings, motions, exhibits, and other legal documents, while tracking case deadlines, court dates, and critical matters. Assist with trial preparation, including exhibit organization, witness materials, and trial binders, and coordinate with attorneys, investigators, experts, clients, courts, and other parties as needed. Maintain accurate and organized electronic and physical case files, identify workflow improvements, and establish efficient processes for the team. Provide hands-on paralegal support in a fast-paced criminal defense practice.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of criminal defense paralegal experience
- Prior experience managing, supervising, or leading paralegals and/or legal support staff
- Strong experience with criminal litigation, discovery, court filings, and trial preparation
- Excellent organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple cases, competing deadlines, and shifting priorities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while also effectively leading and collaborating with a team
- Professional judgment, discretion, and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
- Proficiency with legal technology and electronic case-management systems
Desired Qualifications
- DC and/or Federal criminal defense experience
- A DC-based, in-office or hybrid schedule
- Exceptional remote candidates who are able to travel to Washington, DC periodically as needed
