Job Summary
Lead the Florida auto and general liability defense Staff Counsel operation. Responsibilities include managing and mentoring a litigation team, supervising litigation phases, and ensuring compliance with legal and corporate governance standards. The ideal candidate will have a civil litigation background, specifically in auto and general liability defense, with extensive trial experience. This role emphasizes operational excellence, client service, and strategic legal outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school
- Active license and in good standing with the Florida Bar
- 10 years of civil litigation experience in auto and general liability defense including significant first-chair trial experience
- 3 years of leadership experience
- Experience handling bodily injury litigation
Desired Qualifications
- Experience setting up and leading a staff counsel office for an insurer in Florida
- Deep understanding of Florida civil procedure, insurance law, and defense strategy
- Strong written and oral advocacy skills; adept at negotiation and courtroom presentation
- Ability to think strategically with supporting analytical and critical thinking skills
- Demonstrated successful ability to build positive partnerships and work collaboratively with cross-functional business teams
- Strong leadership capability with experience in building and leading highly successful teams
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Tech-savvy (Microsoft Office, LexisNexis, AI, workflow creation, case-management systems, remote tools)
