Job Summary
Supervise staff attorneys and support staff in providing zealous representation to clients before the Executive Office for Immigration Review, the Board of Immigration Appeals, Citizenship & Immigration Services, and various California state courts. Represent clients directly in these proceedings while managing a personal caseload of affirmative and defensive immigration cases for adults and children. Work with the Directing Attorney for Representation to assign new cases, ensure contract compliance, manage data, and generate reports. Develop and maintain uniform internal policies for client representation. This hybrid position allows remote work 2-3 days per week. Spanish fluency is required.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate
- Active, California State Bar License, or license from another jurisdiction and commitment to sitting for next available CA Bar Exam
- Minimum 3 years of experience in the practice of law, preferably in immigration law
- Strong case management, legal research, and legal writing skills
- Interest in working with and strong ability to relate to young, newly arrived immigrants and those suffering from mental illness
- Interest in working with and strong ability to relate to clients with long criminal histories or past gang affiliation
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work under pressure with limited supervision
- Spanish fluency
- This is a hybrid position that allows staff to work remotely 2-3 days/week (subject to approval)
Desired Qualifications
- Immigration court litigation experience
- Experience litigating cases in state dependency, family, criminal or probate courts
- Experience supervising lawyers and/or law students
