Job Summary
The Manager, Supplier Development will lead a team of Supplier Development Engineers to validate and qualify suppliers for new programs and existing commodities, define and implement quality requirements with product development teams, and drive continuous improvement in purchasing processes. Responsibilities include APQP execution, PPAP completion, corrective actions for quality issues, supplier risk and performance management (including supplier scorecards), cross-functional collaboration with engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and quality assurance, and ensuring compliance with ISO 9001/IATF standards. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field, 5+ years in quality/product development/purchasing, 3+ years of progressive leadership, strong knowledge of quality tools (PPAP, FMEA, SPC), and the ability to travel up to 30% for supplier audits and on-site support. The position is based in Lake Orion, MI, and emphasizes leadership, strategic supplier development, risk management, and cross-functional integration to ensure quality from design through production.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related field
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in quality, product development, and/or purchasing
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressive leadership experience
- Strong understanding of quality management systems (ISO 9001, IATF) and quality tools (PPAP, FMEA, SPC)
- Proven experience in supplier quality management, including supplier development and performance monitoring
- Strong understanding of components and material cost drivers
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify root causes of quality issues
- Experience in new product development processes and project management
- Ability to communicate and make presentations to an audience effectively in a formal setting
