Job Summary
Monitor state and federal legislative movements by maintaining a daily bill tracking system and executing long-term advocacy strategies. Draft policy memos, letters, talking points, and reports while building alliances with non-profits, government officials, and key offices. Serve as a spokesperson for LGBTQ+ youth at panels and conferences to educate policymakers and the public on suicide prevention. Coordinate cross-team alignment and manage multiple projects with high attention to detail. Train and mentor volunteers and interns while fostering an environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
Required Qualifications

- Demonstrated experience working on legislative analysis, drafting, and amendment strategy in a state legislative or equivalent setting for 3-5 years.
- Demonstrated experience clearly and persuasively communicating complex ideas to different audiences in written, spoken and presentational formats for 3-5 years.
- Demonstrated experience building trusted productive long-term relationships within organizations and with external partners to collaborate on advocacy initiatives with local, state, and national partners and have experience working with marginalized communities (e.g. LGBTQ+ people, communities of color, and people with disabilities, among others).
- A demonstrable commitment to LGBTQ rights, youth mental health, or crisis intervention advocacy with an eagerness to grow support for LGBTQ rights among conflicted audiences.
- 1+ year of demonstrated experience in using legislative trackers to follow a high volume of daily policy happenings.
- Familiarity with using the Google platform including Google Docs, Sheets, and Presentations.
- You have used emails and SMS messages in various platforms such as MailChimp and texting platforms to mobilize grassroots advocacy opportunities.
- You have a nuanced understanding of the experiences of LGBTQ+ folks and/or youth mental health.
- You are passionate and willing to learn more about the marginalized identities, and bring your awareness to all the work you do.
- Strong emotional intelligence, integrity, discretion, and ability to build trust across diverse teams and stakeholders
- Spoken and written English
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with technology and appropriations policy at this level is ideal.
