Job Summary

Lead and grow the engineering team behind the Cost Engine by directly managing, coaching, and developing engineers through regular 1:1s, feedback, and career-growth conversations. Own hiring, promotion input, and performance decisions while writing and reviewing production code across .NET 8 REST APIs, C# services, and the ETL estate. Partner with Product Managers and Scrum Masters to translate the roadmap into shipped, reliable software, manage dependencies, and surface risks early. Drive technical direction for platform modernization, including clearer service boundaries, ETL modernization in Rust, and stronger observability, while balancing run-vs-change work to maintain security and reliability. Contribute to the longer-term roadmap, use AI strategically to boost productivity, and communicate progress and tradeoffs clearly to engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with strong, current hands-on coding ability
  • People leadership experience - managing, coaching, and developing engineers, including performance and growth conversations
  • Depth in C# / .NET building and operating production REST APIs and backend services
  • Experience with relational data stores (SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL) and cloud-hosted services on AWS
  • Comfort operating in an Agile environment, sprints, PI planning, and commitment-based delivery, partnering with a Scrum Masters and Product Managers
  • Ability to lead across a hybrid legacy-and-modern codebase, make sound architectural tradeoffs, and manage run-vs-change alongside security and reliability commitments
  • Bachelor's degree plus 8 years of experience
  • Master's degree plus 6 years of experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Healthcare IT experience, especially member cost, claims, benefits, or price-transparency data (e.g., X12 EDI 270/271 and 837, No Surprises Act, Transparency in Coverage)
  • Experience modernizing legacy systems, service decomposition, ETL modernization, or migrations such as cache or secrets-management changes
  • Familiarity with Rust, distributed caching (Redis/Valkey), messaging (SQS/RabbitMQ), and observability tooling (Datadog, OpenTelemetry)
  • Working knowledge of healthcare data privacy and security concepts (PHI/PII)
  • Experience with Jira and Confluence for delivery and documentation
  • Candidates within approximately 50 miles of a U.S. office
