Job Summary
Senior Software Engineering Manager responsible for overseeing a large department of multi-discipline engineers across programs and IRAD initiatives within the NIC Division. The role includes frontline management, staffing and workforce planning, recruiting and onboarding, training managers, performance management and career development, identifying required skills, and leading strategic training initiatives. The position emphasizes developing and executing multi-discipline training plans for software, hardware, and systems engineering, ensuring adherence to engineering processes, and overseeing technical quality across development, integration, or production programs. The candidate should demonstrate strong leadership, effective communication, and the ability to drive change and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. On-site in San Diego, CA, with 100% onsite requirement and 10% travel. Relocation assistance may be available and a Secret security clearance is required to start (and higher clearance levels may be pursued). U.S. Citizenship is required for government-cleared positions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or another STEM discipline with 8 years of relevant engineering and management experience OR Master’s degree with 6 years of relevant engineering and management experience OR PhD with 4 years of relevant engineering and management experience
- Active U.S. Government Secret security clearance, current and within scope, with the ability to obtain and maintain higher clearance levels
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in technical team leadership (Scrum master, Product Owner, SEIT lead, Program Management, etc.)
- Experience in managing a team of employees, management of project work, and current software technologies/tools
- Experience developing, designing, architecting, or deploying large software stacks
- Experience with Software Integration & Test (I&T)
- Experience in all aspects of the software engineering process, from requirements analysis through verification testing
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder-management skills
- U.S. Citizenship required for positions with a government clearance
