Job Summary

Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers by setting clear goals, conducting performance reviews, and managing recruitment and onboarding. Manage roadmap commitments and customer-driven priorities to balance feature delivery, technical debt, and operational excellence while driving predictable planning. Strengthen engineering quality through code reviews, effective testing strategies, and open-source contributions, and provide technical direction for the Compute platform's scalability, resiliency, and security. Improve service reliability and observability by supporting critical escalations and promoting automation across development and operations. Collaborate with Product Management, Architecture, and SRE to build strong relationships across engineering organizations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline
  • Requires a minimum of eight years of related programming or testing experience, including one year of project lead, supervisory or management experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading software engineering teams, including performance management, coaching, career development, recruitment and team building
  • Experience delivering enterprise-scale software, with a strong understanding of distributed systems and service-oriented architectures
  • Experience developing software on Linux, working with cloud-native and containerized environments, and delivering in Agile software development environments
  • Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications

  • Technical leadership - leads highly technical discussions and sound architectural decisions without needing to be the primary implementer
  • Execution and judgement - balances customer needs, business priorities and engineering investment in a complex, distributed organization
  • Experience with Kubernetes and OpenShift, container technologies, microservices, CI/CD and DevOps practices
  • Experience operating large-scale SaaS platforms on Azure or another major cloud provider, including mission-critical customer environments
  • Experience with observability and operational monitoring technologies such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog or ELK
  • Knowledge of security and authentication, performance and scalability engineering, enterprise platform operations, and analytics, compute or data-processing platforms
  • Experience managing geographically distributed teams and a passion for modern cloud-native software development
