Job Summary
Manager, Platform Engineering at Hummingbird leads the platform engineering team responsible for building pipelines, integrations, and the AI platform that powers the organization. The role defines and maintains architectural standards across data pipelines, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, observability, and automated testing; drives the adoption of AI-native development including AI-assisted coding and agent-driven automation; manages capacity and delivery cadence across concurrent workstreams; deploys Strike Teams for high-value projects; reviews architectural decisions; builds bench depth through rotations and embedding; oversees day-to-day technical decisions at the boundary with Security & Infrastructure and Enterprise Applications; acts as the technical voice in cross-functional planning; runs performance processes and coaching; translates strategy into team plans and communicates constraints and risks; contributes hands-on development work and internal tooling; and participates in company-wide growth and culture initiatives. The role requires remote work within the United States, 4-6+ years in software/platform engineering with 1-2+ years of people leadership, and the ability to operate in a healthcare technology context within a fast-growing environment.
Required Qualifications
- 4 to 6+ years of experience in software or platform engineering
- 1 to 2+ years of experience leading people or projects
- proven track record of driving team delivery, quality, and outcomes
- ability to lead a team through change (merger, shifting mission, or practice reset)
- ability to coach engineers and raise performance
- strong communication and alignment skills with stakeholders including senior leadership
- experience driving architectural standards across platform (CI/CD, IaC, observability)
- hands-on experience with AI-powered development tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, Copilot)
- experience with modern data pipeline architectures and application integration patterns
- ability to translate strategy into team-level plans and prioritize work
- willingness to contribute hands-on development work as part of normal team operations
- healthcare technology or regulated environment experience is a plus
