Job Summary
Manager of Water and Wastewater Services provides leadership for the operation and maintenance of municipal water and wastewater systems, ensures compliance with environmental regulations, leads capital construction and engineering design for municipal infrastructure, manages staff and contracts, oversees reporting and regulatory submissions, coordinates with developers and external stakeholders, and drives strategic planning, budgeting, work planning, and resource development to deliver safe, cost-effective water and wastewater services.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a three (3) year community college diploma or university degree in Environmental Engineering Technology, or a related field, or an approved equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must hold and maintain a valid Class III Operator’s Licence for Water Treatment
- Must hold and maintain a valid Class III Operator’s Licence for Wastewater Treatment
- A valid Class G Driver’s Licence and a safe driving record
- Comprehensive knowledge of Ontario regulations governing Water Treatment and Sewage Treatment facilities and operations
- Familiarity with water quality requirements including chemical analysis, dosing, laboratory requirements, monitoring equipment operations and maintenance
- Familiarity with fields related to water/wastewater treatment including mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, PLC, SCADA
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
- Ability to work independently on multiple projects and manage staff
- Knowledge of human resources, financial, and project management strategies
- Strong computer skills (Google Docs, Microsoft Office, SCADA)
- Ability to obtain/maintain satisfactory criminal record check or security clearance
- Nice-to-have: MOE Risk Management and Property Entry certification
- Seven (7) years of experience in municipal drinking water and wastewater environments with at least three (3) years in a supervisory role
- Experience in managing projects from strategy through planning, implementation and evaluation
- Experience in a unionized work environment
- Leadership and coaching/mentoring experience
- Experience in managing capital projects and environmental assessments
- Knowledge of safety regulations (OHSA) and City policies
