Job Summary
Manager of Software Engineering role leading entry-level to mid-level engineers in JPMorganChase's Commercial & Investment Bank Payments Technology division. Responsibilities include overseeing technical design and implementation of scalable, low-latency payments systems; hands-on software development and troubleshooting; producing architecture/design artifacts; deriving insights from large data sets to improve software applications; identifying data-driven improvements in coding hygiene and system architecture; contributing to engineering communities of practice; recruiting, onboarding, and developing top engineering talent; fostering a diverse and inclusive team culture; and ensuring production code quality and security. Required focus areas include Java, REST, microservices, Kafka, Spring/Spring Boot, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, agile practices, and development tooling (GIT, JIRA, Maven); experience leading technologists and guiding architectural decisions in a distributed, microservice-based environment; and a track record of delivering scalable systems in a payments context.
Required Qualifications
- Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts
- 5+ years of applied experience
- Experience leading teams of technologists
- Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent
- Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and ensuring operational stability
- Advanced knowledge of software applications and technical processes (cloud, AI/ML, etc.)
- Proficiency in Java, REST, and microservices; experience building event-driven microservices and Kafka streaming
- Experience with Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and cloud infrastructure
- Knowledge of CI/CD, resiliency, and security
- Experience with GIT/Bitbucket, JIRA, Maven
- Exposure to AI using Python, Copilot in IDEs
