Job Summary
Manage new railcar production quality by inspecting vehicles through all manufacturing phases and performing final acceptance checks prior to shipment. Schedule staff coverage from start-up to completion, prioritize inspection resources across builder locations, and approve repair decisions for cars requiring rework. Lead specification and drawing review meetings, document quality non-conformances, and coordinate customer and inspector visits. Collaborate with the builder's production, quality, and engineering teams to resolve issues and ensure compliance with GATX and customer standards. Audit quality assurance documents to verify physical railcars match records and observe safe work practices in a heavy industry environment.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years' freight railcar manufacturing experience
- Railcar inspection and quality assurance experience within a railcar manufacturing plant
- Knowledge of railcar types and components and ensuring compliance with drawings, engineering standards, industry regulatory standards, and customer requirements
- Weld inspection experience
- Railcar interior and exterior coatings experience
- NDT performance and evaluation experience
- Valid passport or ability to obtain one
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in Spanish and English
- Ability to interpret specifications, drawings and quality reports
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and email
- Residency within commuting distance of a base railcar manufacturing location in Northern Mexico such as Monclova or Sabinas
- Daily presence at Monclova or Sabinas facilities 5 days a week
- Ability to perform visual evaluation and dimensional measurement using inspection equipment (weld gauges, mil gauges, etc.)
- Ability to walk throughout railcar manufacturing facilities indoors and outdoors within a heavy industry environment
- Ability to climb on, under, and into railcars during and after construction
- Ability to stand or kneel for car inspections
Desired Qualifications
- Weld inspection certification
- NACE certification for railcar interior and exterior coatings
