Job Summary
Direct and coordinate the development of short- and long-range mine plans, budgets and targets of performance for mining operations; supervise and motivate department personnel to meet plans, budgets and performance targets; oversee plans, projects and programs to achieve safety, quality, production and cost goals; administer corporate, property, and departmental policies and ensure CBAs are adhered to; determine equipment needs and participate in selection of new equipment; monitor key process indicators to improve efficiency, quality and cost; promote teamwork and high performance standards; oversee disciplinary actions when necessary; coordinate safety and loss control programs; negotiate royalties with land fee holders; weekly travel to Hibbing Taconite, United Taconite, Minorca Mine and Northshore Mining locations; other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. in Mine Engineering or related field or equivalent
- 8-10 years supervisory/managerial experience in mine planning, engineering, operations, and administration
- Ability to maintain ATF certification
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills such as team building and conflict resolution
- Willingness to promote team concepts and company policies
- Ability to motivate, delegate, establish, and work in a collaborative environment
- Prior Iron Ore Mining experience (preferred)
- Experience with managing a unionized workforce (preferred)
