Job Summary

Manage comprehensive operational, technical, and administrative leadership for Cornell's historic ice rink, ensuring varsity athletic programs have access to an exceptional surface while stewarding the facility as a shared community asset for Physical Education, club sports, intramurals, and external users. Balance competing demands and schedules of diverse constituents with fairness and diplomacy, and collaborate with Athletic and Facilities leadership to develop revenue-generating opportunities for rentals and special events. Execute sustainability and facility improvement plans to maintain high standards and functionality, while working evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed by the event and competition schedule.

Required Qualifications

  • Trade/Technical/Vocational School degree in a related field
  • at least 2 years of relevant experience
  • management experience
  • equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency or experience with ice resurfacing equipment
  • experience with refrigeration systems
  • experience with rink mechanical infrastructure
  • Proficiency with facility management software
  • point-of-sale and scheduling systems
  • standard productivity tools (Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Google Workspace)
  • Valid motor vehicle operator's license
  • ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • ability to work effectively in cold rink environments for extended periods
  • Demonstrated success in building collaborative relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated skill in understanding cultural differences
  • Proven experience connecting inclusion, belonging and wellbeing practices to business goals

Desired Qualifications

  • Additional education, specifically in Facility Management, Sports Management, Business, or another related field
  • More specific experience in a collegiate, professional, or high-profile amateur hockey facility
  • familiarity with NCAA Division I regulations governing athletic facilities
  • scheduling and client management in a multi-use sports or recreation facility
  • ammonia refrigeration systems
  • EPA Section 608 certification
  • equivalent training and experience
  • Certification from the Ice-Skating Institute (ISI)
  • Refrigerating Engineers & Technicians Association (RETA)
  • similar professional body
  • equivalent professional experience and training
  • able to be certified after being employed
