Job Summary
Manager II, Research at Root leads a small research function to deeply understand customers, inform product and business decisions, and differentiate experiences in insurtech. The role combines hands-on research with people leadership: coach team members, set standards, prioritize high-value questions, and ensure research is integrated into roadmaps and strategy. You will personally lead high-priority research, translate ambiguous questions into actionable plans, design and execute qualitative, quantitative, evaluative, and mixed-methods studies, partner with Analytics and Data Science to triangulate data, and create durable narratives and decision frameworks that drive product and business outcomes. You’ll build and sustain operating rhythms, empower others across Product, Design, Analytics, Marketing, Claims, Service, and leadership forums, and raise customer understanding throughout Root. Qualifications emphasize extensive experience in user/product/customer/design research, mixed-methods expertise, stakeholder management, and coaching/leadership, with a strong emphasis on customer-centric decision making and business impact.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in user research, product research, customer research, design research, market research, behavioral research, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience managing, formally leading, research operations partners, or cross-functional research contributors.
