Job Summary
Directly manage the Observability Pipelines engineering org, including EM1s across NYC and Paris, while setting technical direction for a distributed team of approximately 20 individuals. Build out management and technical leadership layers, partner with Product to co-own the roadmap, and establish operating rhythms for planning and incident standards. Coach managers and senior engineers to develop succession plans that enable the organization to scale beyond your direct involvement. Own key cross-org relationships with the SaaS Logs Pipelines team, the BYOC team, and the Vector open-source community. This role focuses on growing the org at a pivotal moment in the product's lifecycle within Datadog's data pipeline optimization story.
Required Qualifications
- Experienced managing managers across distributed teams
- Track record of raising the bar on how teams operate
- Background in distributed systems and high-throughput data infrastructure
- Ability to guide architectural and build-vs-buy decisions at the domain level
- Familiarity with on-premises or customer-installed software
- Understanding of operational tradeoffs in on-premises environments
- Experience supporting complex escalations and diagnosing incidents in varied environments
- Ability to set and evolve operating rhythms including planning cadence, on-call standards, and cross-team alignment
- Experience owning key cross-org relationships
- Ability to coach managers and senior engineers
- Experience building succession and growth plans
- Strategic partnership with Product to set roadmaps
- Commercial awareness of the competitive landscape
- Ability to connect engineering decisions to business outcomes
- Eligibility for any required authorizations from the US government
