Job Summary
Oversee daily operation, preventive maintenance, and repair of hospital HVAC systems, including air handlers, fan coils, air compressors, steam stations, and exhaust fans. Direct supervision of 2 foremen and up to 24 mechanics and helpers while managing union shop staff, outside contractors, and HVAC consultants. Perform shutdowns, startups, and testing of chiller and fire standpipe systems to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted plant operations. Coordinate equipment shutdowns with space occupants and Infection Prevention and Control teams, respond to emergencies and system failures requiring after-hours support, and monitor system performance for optimization and cost savings. Manage maintenance budgets, parts inventory, vendor contracts, and CMMS scheduling while ensuring compliance with Joint Commission, ASHRAE, NFPA, and regulatory standards.
Required Qualifications
- Engineering Bachelors Degree
- 4-6 years experience in industrial/commercial HVAC systems
- knowledge and 2 years of union trade supervisory
- ability to function in stressful situations and respond to emergency conditions
- ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
- Familiarity with all types of mechanical electrical, plumbing systems
- building automation systems
- energy conservation programs
- utility distribution
- management/supervision in a union shops environment
- knowledge of ASHRAE standards (including healthcare ventilation requirements)
- knowledge of NFPA codes
- knowledge of Joint Commission (TJC) standards
- knowledge of Local, state, and federal regulations
- knowledge of healthcare and life‐safety standards
- ability to utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to schedule and record work performed
- ability to manage staff in accordance with collective bargaining agreements
Desired Qualifications
- related experience including 4-6 years experience in industrial/commercial HVAC systems, piping, fluid flow, electronic/pneumatic control systems, HVAC and Building Automation Commissioning
- 2 years of union trade supervisory
