Job Summary
Oversee global LAN, WAN, wireless, and VPN infrastructure to ensure maximum availability, security, and performance while managing vendor relationships and hardware lifecycles. Lead on-call rotations for critical network issues, resolve escalated Tier 1/2 helpdesk escalations, and maintain comprehensive network documentation and root-cause knowledge bases. Execute M&A integration roadmaps by deploying templated site blueprints for newly acquired subsidiaries and managing office buildouts across domestic and international locations. Align network access with Zero Trust architecture, Identity and Access Management platforms, and Conditional Access Policies to enforce CMMC, SOC2 Type II, and federal ITAR compliance standards. Protect core quantum computing assets through secure VPNs and IP-restricted gateways while mentoring junior administrators and contractors.
Required Qualifications
- 7-10 years of experience in network engineering and administration
- at least 3-5 years in leadership, project management, or operations management capacity handling multi-site or complex corporate environments
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical work experience
- Deep understanding of core networking protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and routing protocols (OSPF, BGP)
- Strong hands-on experience configuring and managing enterprise firewalls (e.g., Fortinet, Palo Alto Networks), secure VPN tunneling, and access control lists
- Practical experience building, auditing, or maintaining networks within highly regulated frameworks such as SOC2 Type II or CMMC
- Familiarity navigating migrations from traditional On-Prem Active Directory domains to modern, identity-driven cloud directories (e.g., JumpCloud, Okta) and Conditional Access Policies
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven track record of collaborating effectively with subsidiary IT leads, internal stakeholders, and external vendors during stressful infrastructure transitions
- Ability to participate in an after-hours on-call rotation
- Ability to travel occasionally to other IonQ manufacturing or office sites
- U.S. Person status (U.S. citizen, U.S. national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum) for export controls and government contracts work
Desired Qualifications
- Relevant advanced industry certifications (e.g., CCNP, PCNSE, NSE 4–7)
- Experience working in high-security, high-tech industries (e.g., Aerospace, Defense, or Deep Tech)
- Experience with cloud-native networking environments (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, AWS)
- Knowledge of network automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Ansible) to drive operational efficiency
