Job Summary

Manage and direct the resources and operational activities of the On-site Patient Access Financial Counseling team, assisting patients with insurance benefits and self-pay responsibilities while arranging payment plans per established policies. Establish departmental goals, develop policies and procedures, and set priorities to ensure smooth patient flow. Monitor subordinate productivity reports, review Department Activity Reports, and resolve work problems using operational, technical, and program knowledge. Serve as the primary resource for the Patient Access team regarding insurance benefits, contracting, and financial counseling policies. Responsible for hiring, evaluating, counseling, and disciplining assigned team members, providing on-the-job training and addressing training gaps. Assist in developing and monitoring the annual operating budget to ensure operations stay within guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in business, finance, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated competency in healthcare management experience
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of insurance eligibility and benefits
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of contracting
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of financial counseling
  • Knowledge of accounting
  • Knowledge of finance
  • Knowledge of business management
  • Ability to prepare clear and comprehensive oral and written communications
  • Extensive knowledge of policies, procedures, systems, and equipment relating to pre-admission, billing, and collection
  • Extensive knowledge of regulations and guidelines pertaining to third-party payers
  • Extensive knowledge of guidelines pertaining to self-pay balances
  • Computer-literate with proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to develop policies, procedures, processes, and programs aimed at increasing upfront collections
  • Ability to analyze data and interpret statistics to create a variety of narrative, statistical, and collection reports
  • Ability to identify opportunities for increased collections
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
