Manager, Field Mechanical Engineering - Assembly

Job Summary
Lead a team of four to eight field mechanical engineers to plan and deliver on near to medium-term objectives for specific work stations within the SPARC Assembly scope; translate department strategy into actionable group objectives and manageable project timelines; define and optimize field engineering workflows and internal standards to improve solution outcome rate and team efficiency; oversee the full station scoping life cycle from predecessor/definition to tool and process implementation; establish best practices for mechanical assembly including alignment, installation, and rework; manage talent, including hiring, training, and performance expectations; coach and mentor team members for technical growth; collaborate across the organization to influence design direction and resolve technical conflicts; provide design feedback to SPARC sub-system designs with focus on manufacturing and assembly; assist in disposition and resolution of non-conformance issues and incorporate red-line changes; support hands-on operations during Tokamak Assembly; work with teammates to ensure requirements are met; this role requires lifting up to 50 lbs and onsite presence five days per week during assembly operations; location noted as Devens, MA.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering
- 2+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience with project ownership
- 2+ years of management or oversight of an in-progress construction, manufacturing, or assembly/integration process
- 2+ years of experience with CAD software
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
- Willingness to travel or work nights/weekends/on-call occasionally for vendor visits during tool fabrication phases
- Required onsite 5 days/week when assembly operations with relevant tools are underway
