Manager: External Communications

Job Summary
Develop and implement the annual Group External Communications plan to drive consistent earned media visibility and reinforce Old Mutual's Value Creation Story. Shape proactive media positioning, monitor industry trends, and analyse public sentiment to inform reputation management and support balanced reporting. Lead high-impact content creation including opinion pieces, press releases, and webinars while securing strategic speaker opportunities for executive visibility. Build and maintain a robust network of journalists and external advocacy partners to amplify the company's share of voice and extend stakeholder dialogue. Coach direct reports, manage media relations for key strategic events, and enhance the Communications Framework to ensure policy compliance. Represent Group Communications in cross-functional forums and coordinate delivery with Human Capital, Risk, Finance, and Technology teams.
Required Qualifications
- Relevant undergraduate degree or qualification in Strategic Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing and/or Digital Marketing or a related discipline
- 5-7 years' progressive corporate communications experience
- at least 3 years in external communications within a large, complex or matrixed organisation
- Proven experience managing direct reports and improving team capability, quality and delivery discipline
- Extensive experience in defining and implementing communications plans, including driving communication standards and governance across a large and complex business
- Bachelors Degree (B)
