Job Summary
Oversee occupational health and safety for cell and gene therapy operations, including containment, decontamination, and regulated waste disposal. Conduct Job Hazard Analyses and risk evaluations for novel advanced therapies while ensuring compliance with University of Pittsburgh, OSHA, and EPA regulations. Provide EHS input into laboratory and manufacturing suite design, lead root-cause investigations, and drive ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certification programs. Partner with process development and GMP manufacturing teams to deliver technical safety reviews and inspections. Establish a safety culture focused on open reporting and accountability across the new Pittsburgh facility.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or master's degree in environmental science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related scientific field
- 8+ years of experience, specifically with establishing new facilities for GMP manufacturing biologics or cell and gene therapies
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement and professional maturity
- Utilize strong communication, organizational and problem-solving skills to manage multiple priorities while interfacing with colleagues at all levels
- Ability to work onsite in Pittsburgh, PA
Desired Qualifications
- Preferred credentials include Biosafety Professional certifications (RBP or CBSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
