Job Summary
Manager, Environment leads project-based environmental programs for the Goldboro project, overseeing environmental compliance, permitting, and risk management; develops and implements environmental plans (erosion control, dust management, waste management, tailings, water management) and collaborates with environment/community teams to align with regulatory and community commitments; requires a bachelor’s degree and at least 10 years in mining environment/regulatory affairs, with travel to site and rotational schedule.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in science or engineering in an environmental-related field
- Minimum of 10 years’ progressive experience in the management of environment and regulatory affairs for the design, construction and commissioning of a mine
- Experience in mine permitting and compliance in Nova Scotia during the construction phase
- Experience working in a mine site environment
- Broad expertise in environmental management in the mining industry (environmental management systems, regulatory approvals, water quality, air quality, mine waste, biodiversity, ecological or human health risk assessments, noise, closure/reclamation)
- Ability to develop and maintain environmental and risk management systems
- Advanced proficiency in supporting operational leadership and technical/project teams on environmental performance
- Excellent knowledge of relevant Nova Scotia and federal legislation and regulations
- Strong communication and presentation skills with ability to translate technical information
- Strong analytical thinking and data interpretation
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional judgment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic databases
- Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor activities and operate field equipment when needed
- Valid driver’s license (Class 5 in Nova Scotia)
- Desirable: understanding of Indigenous communities in Nova Scotia; experience with Nova Scotia regulations; consultation/community engagement software; professional designation (e.g., P.Eng., EP)
