Job Summary
Oversee Calpine's Transformer Reliability Program and serve as technical authority for all transformer assets, providing guidance on maintenance, testing, and diagnostic procedures for distribution and large power transformers. Lead repair projects, conduct root cause analysis for failures, and manage critical spare transformer components and inventory. Develop execution plans to achieve project milestones, monitor critical path schedules, and ensure efficient operation of the Engineering Project Management function. This role requires travel to plants, transformer factories, and vendor offices. You will mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership to internal and external entities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Master's Degree
- Previous work leadership or senior level contributor experience
- Minimum of 10+ years in area of specialization
- Expert level experience with diagnostic tools and transformer electrical testing, oil sampling and dissolved gas analysis, and transformer maintenance
- Experienced in the diagnosis and repair of faulty transformers
- Demonstrate ability to analyze test results to determine the health index and remaining lifespan of equipment
- Extensive site work at utility substations, power generation facilities or industrial sites
- Has managed contractors or internal employees at some level on projects
- Has written, reviewed, and checked Specifications, Proposals, Quotes, Contracts, Purchase Orders, and other relevant project documents
- Has worked safely on or around HV, MV, and LV systems in hazardous environments such as power plants and substations
- Has strong supervisory technical and leadership skills
- Has excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Has demonstrated the ability to work as a technical lead in an autonomous role
