Job Summary
Manager of Mechanical Engineering at Global Engineering Centre (GEC) Pune leading a team of mechanical engineers responsible for modular buildings, mechanical structures, thermal engineering, and product development. Responsibilities include building and scaling the GEC Pune team, defining hiring plans, onboarding, training roadmaps, performance reviews, career development, and succession planning; establishing design standards, templates, and quality gates; driving adoption of CAD/CAE tools (AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, SolidWorks, CREO, CATIA); ensuring compliance with EN/ISO/AISC/IS codes; coordinating with global product development managers and project teams; delivering mechanical design documentation, structural calculations, HVAC designs, CFD analyses, and related drawings; driving continuous improvement, knowledge management, and innovation; and managing cross-functional collaboration across disciplines, with 40-50% travel. The role emphasizes leadership, mentorship, and strategic alignment to position Pune as a Centre of Excellence for mechanical engineering delivery.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 14+ years of progressive mechanical/structural design engineering experience
- minimum 4+ years in a team leadership or management role
- Excellent knowledge of English
- Software proficiency: AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor; knowledge of SolidWorks, CREO, CATIA preferred; PLM/PDM systems knowledge
- Proven ability to build and scale engineering teams
- Strong people management, mentoring, and coaching skills
- Experience in capacity planning and resource management
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Project/program management capabilities
- Leadership, strategic thinking, attention to detail, problem-solving, organization, creativity, teamwork, flexibility, drive for results
- Willingness to travel 40-50%
