Job Summary
Manager Engineering - Electrical role based in Freeport-McMoRan's New Orleans project office (Lower Garden District). The position leads an Electrical engineering design team through planning, design, and execution phases of a portfolio of capital projects, ensuring timely delivery, adherence to codes and standards, and alignment with cost and quality objectives. Responsibilities include overseeing all electrical deliverables, developing fit-for-purpose solutions for a range of projects from operational support to large-scale capital work, establishing continuous improvement through standards and best practices, ensuring appropriate resources and regular evaluation of team structure, coordinating engineering processes and quality audits, guiding deliverable development, budgets, and schedules, and collaborating with Procurement, Construction, and Operations to manage risk and support safety initiatives. Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree (or master’s) in engineering with substantial experience and demonstrated leadership of design engineering teams on large projects; preferred qualifications include deep electrical engineering expertise, department-management experience, project scoping and execution strategy skills, and extensive exposure to multi-disciplinary lifecycles in mining/metallurgy-related facilities. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate engineering discipline and 10 years of experience in engineering field; OR Master’s degree in an appropriate engineering discipline and 8 years of experience in engineering field; AND Experience managing design engineering teams working on large-scale projects
- Experience managing design engineering teams
- Deep expertise in electrical engineering design, including development of deliverables and execution of work across complex projects
- Experience as an Electrical Engineering Department Manager, leading electrical engineering teams (engineers, designers, and drafters), with the ability to coach, mentor, and drive performance
- Expertise in scoping projects and developing electrical engineering execution strategies, including planning, sequencing, and coordination across multi-disciplinary teams
- Significant experience in a Design (home) Office for an Engineering Firm or major EPC company, with exposure to full project lifecycles
- Background in mining, material handling or metallurgy processing facilities, including field experience supporting construction phase
- Advanced knowledge of engineering systems, project controls, and industry standards, with the ability to manage stakeholders, solve complex technical challenges, and integrate engineering with procurement, construction, and commissioning activities
- Travel up to 15%
