Job Summary
Lead the advanced composite structures design team for Archer's eVTOL aircraft, overseeing design, development, and certification of composite airframe structures to optimize performance, weight efficiency, and safety while meeting aviation standards. Recruit and develop top talent for the Airframe team; provide coaching, performance reviews, and career development; coordinate with product teams to align resources with program objectives; drive advanced composite design concepts, material evaluation, and manufacturing processes; collaborate with suppliers, contribute to IP development; require 10+ years in composite structures, 3+ years in leadership, and proficiency with CAD/FEA tools; travel quarterly and work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. Must be able to work in laboratory and manufacturing settings; Archer does not sponsor work visas at this time.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in composite structures design and analysis
- 3+ years of management or team leadership experience
- Experience with aircraft certification processes (Part 23, Part 27, or Part 25)
- Proficiency with CAD software (NX, CATIA, SolidWorks)
- Advanced experience with FEA tools (ANSYS, Nastran, Abaqus)
- Knowledge of laminate theory, failure criteria, and damage tolerance
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
- Master's degree preferred
- 10+ years of experience in composite structures design and analysis
- 3+ years of management or team leadership experience
- Experience with aircraft certification processes (Part 23, Part 27, or Part 25)
- Proficiency with CAD software (NX, CATIA, SolidWorks)
- Advanced experience with FEA tools (ANSYS, Nastran, Abaqus)
- Knowledge of laminate theory, failure criteria, and damage tolerance
- Experience with autoclave, RTM, prepreg, and other composite manufacturing processes
