Job Summary
Lead a team of planning professionals to guide San Diego International Airport's future growth through master planning, land use compatibility, and long-range infrastructure efforts. Advance capacity and congestion management by managing demand forecasting, airfield utilization, and operational efficiency within the airport's unique spatial constraints. Navigate complex federal, state, and local regulatory requirements including NEPA, CEQA, and the California Coastal Act while interpreting sensitive political considerations. Translate technical planning issues for internal leadership, external agencies, and the public to build alignment and move projects forward. Oversee consultants, capital projects, budgets, grants, and contracts to deliver strategic planning priorities successfully.
Required Qualifications
- Eight years of progressively responsible planning experience in a public agency, airport, or consulting environment, including work in areas such as airport planning, land use compatibility, environmental planning, transportation planning, or capital development
- At least three of those years of experience in a supervisory or program management capacity
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Urban, Regional or Transportation Planning, Aviation Management, or a closely related field
- On-site days are required, based on department needs, to support collaboration and business operations
- Disaster service workers are required to participate in such disaster service activities as they may be assigned to them by their employer or law
Desired Qualifications
- Designation as an American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), Professional Transportation Planner (PTP), American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) or Certified Member (C.M.), LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP), Project Management Professional (PMP)
