Job Summary
Director of Compensation Accounting at SMBC Americas leads end-to-end accounting, reporting, controls, and governance over personnel expenses (payroll, bonus, benefits, deferred compensation). Oversees Payroll accounting, bonus and incentive compensation, benefits, and accruals; partners with HR, Payroll, FP&A, and senior management to ensure accurate financial reporting and robust controls. Owns month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close for personnel expense accounts; reviews journal entries and disclosures; ensures compliance with US GAAP/IFRS/J-GAAP. Drives accrual methodologies, analytics, and forecasting in partnership with FP&A; designs and enhances internal controls (SOX) and audit readiness. Responsible for balance sheet integrity of compensation-related accounts, external reporting with auditors, and regulatory exams. Leads automation and process improvements across Payroll and HRIS integrations and GL systems, and acts as a senior finance partner to HR/Compensation & Benefits and Senior Finance leadership. Requires strong Excel, Oracle Cloud GL, and Alteryx skills, with CPA preferred; hybrid work pattern available at the Charlotte-area office.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 10–15+ years’ experience in Compensation and/or Equity Based Accounting leadership, ideally within banking or financial services.
