Job Summary
Independently process FOIA and Privacy Act requests by researching disclosure laws, drafting response letters, and managing OER email boxes. Conduct legal and policy research to determine document release appropriateness, coordinate with attorneys and staff to resolve sensitive document conflicts, and maintain strict compliance records. Research, write, fact-check, and edit science-based materials for NIH audiences, including articles, newsletters, and reports. Draft materials for publication, apply editorial standards, and revise content based on clearance feedback. Attend scientific seminars, interview subject matter experts, and present information to advance the agency's biomedical research mission.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Governmental Affairs, or Public Policy
- Minimum of five (5) years of specialized experience
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills
- Ability to exercise initiative and work independently
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Adobe Acrobat
- Internet research tools
- Knowledge of FOIA, the Privacy Act, DHHS FOIA Regulations, NIH policy and court decisions
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Governmental Affairs, or Public Policy (seven years preferred)
- Minimum of five (5) years of specialized experience (seven years preferred)
