Job Summary
Mam Reviewer/Editor/Certifier to support the Department of Justice with Translation, Interpretation, Transcription and other Linguistic Support Services (LSS). Responsible for translating documents and media content (including audio/video), handling a range of subject areas such as medical, chemical, financial, legal, and governmental terminology. Materials are often sensitive and require strict confidentiality. Requires five years of experience in the language with strong English editing, ILR 4 or equivalent, US residency requirements (last 3 of 5 years in the U.S.), at least one year of experience with law enforcement or legal departments, U.S. citizenship, native-language writing with professional command of the non-native language, and proficiency with translation resources and CAT tools (SDL Trados Studio). Must be able to translate without changes or omissions, preserve tone, and adhere to a linguist ethics code; familiarity with a variety of document formats and media; ability to work remotely with potential travel to CONUS locations and National Capital Region; active Public Trust or higher clearance required.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the required language with superior English and editing skills
- Qualifying ILR 4 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S.
- Must have at least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Know both English and foreign language vocabularies used in formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative, and casual modes of communication in various contexts, including slang and regionalisms
- Know specialized vocabulary in English and foreign language related to Government’s varied roles and missions, plus research/analytical skills for terminology, translation resources, reference materials
- Write in native language fluently, but have professional command of non-native language
- Translate in a manner that is factually and conceptually accurate without changes, omissions, or additions
- Preserve tone and register of source language materials
- Abide by relevant code of linguist ethics
- Proficient in using Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, with emphasis on SDL Trados Studio
- Clearance: Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
- Location: Remote / National Capitol Region / Various CONUS Locations
- Travel: Some travel may be required
