Job Summary
Malay Translator to support the Department of Justice with Translation, Interpretation, Transcription and other Linguistic Support Services. Responsibilities include translating documents and multimedia content across legal, medical, financial, historical, and technical domains; providing court and deposition interpretation; preserving tone and register of source materials; adhering to linguist ethics and strict confidentiality for sensitive material; utilizing CAT tools (SDL Trados Studio); and handling a variety of source formats while ensuring accuracy. Remote work available nationwide (CONUS) with an in-person option in the National Capital Region; some travel may be required. Requires U.S. citizenship, ILR 3 level proficiency or equivalent, and experience with law enforcement/legal environments.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years of translation experience
- ILR 3 minimum or equivalent
- U.S. citizen
- Experience with law enforcement and/or legal department
- Proficiency with CAT tools (SDL Trados Studio)
- Knowledge of both English and Malay legal/diplomatic terminology
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years of translation experience
- ILR 3 or equivalent on language/translation tests
- U.S. citizen
- Experience with legal/government translation
- Proficiency with Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, SDL Trados Studio
- Experience in translation, interpretation, transcription and linguistic support for sensitive materials
