Job Summary
Major Gifts Officer responsible for growing and managing a portfolio of donor prospects (100+), cultivating and soliciting gifts to Penn Medicine and the Abramson Cancer Center; collaborates with faculty and development colleagues to engage donors toward major and leadership gifts; develops understanding of organizational needs, communicates Penn Medicine’s strategic direction, and coordinates prospect visits, events, and materials to maximize gifts; requires donor-centered fundraising expertise, strong writing/communication skills, ability to travel locally and nationally, and proven ability to meet fundraising goals.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in institutional development with emphasis on major gifts from individuals and organizations or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- At least one year in an academic medical center or a large scientific/health care research institution is preferred
- Demonstrated ability to meet fundraising goals with a growing confidence in managing and balancing donor/faculty/volunteer relationships
- Ability to function independently yet work in a centralized development structure
- Strong administrative experience, project management, and ability to establish objectives, set performance standards, and organize a successful approach to achieving fundraising goals
- Excellent writing and communication skills; ability to travel locally and nationally and work some nights/weekends
