Job Summary
Lead the development, planning, execution, and closeout of wind turbine major component exchange projects, overseeing engineering aspects from initial assessment through commissioning and final documentation. Apply deep Vestas turbine technology expertise as the primary technical focus, defining work methods, special tooling, rigging, crane, and component-handling requirements for successful field execution. Interpret technical documentation to develop work instructions, lift sequences, and inspection plans while evaluating critical mechanical interfaces and coordinating with Engineering, Operations, EHS, and site teams. Provide field teams with technical briefings, mentoring, and troubleshooting support to resolve deviations and ensure quality hold points and punch-list closure. Support condition monitoring data review to assess component condition and capture lessons learned for future projects.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field
- Five or more years of wind industry experience
- At least three years of direct experience planning, supervising, engineering, or executing major component exchanges
- Minimum three years of direct technical experience with Vestas wind turbine technology
- Responsibility for Vestas MCE planning, execution, field support, or supervision
- Strong mechanical knowledge of wind turbine gearboxes, generators, main bearings, shafts, flanges, bolted connections, alignment, lubrication systems, and related drivetrain components
- Demonstrated working knowledge of special tooling, lifting fixtures, rigging, cranes, hydraulic systems, torque and tensioning equipment, and the practical site requirements associated with major lifts
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, OEM manuals, technical specifications, inspection reports, condition monitoring information, and borescope findings, and to convert them into clear execution requirements
- Demonstrated ability to guide field teams, communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders, solve problems under field conditions, and travel to project sites as needed
- Up to 50% travel during project execution
- Maximum personal body weight of 260 lbs
- Use of a Personal Fall Arrest System when climbing a wind turbine
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with other wind turbine platforms (Siemens/Siemens Gamesa, MHI, or other OEMs)
- Equivalent combination of technical education and extensive wind turbine MCE experience
