Job Summary
Maintenance Worker - Streets performs semi-skilled and unskilled street maintenance and repair duties under supervision, including street patching, crack filling, road construction, bridge repair, concrete removal, curb/gutter/sidewalk construction, road grading, right-of-way maintenance, cleaning ditches, culvert maintenance, material hauling, de-icing, and snow plowing. The role also involves assisting with pothole and debris removal, operating tools and equipment, performing routine and preventive maintenance, conducting traffic control in work zones, and providing excellent customer service to the public and internal customers. The position may participate in an on-call rotation after hours and weekends, travel within the City of Canon City and Fremont County, and may require occasional attendance at City Council meetings. Required qualifications include one year of related experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and valid Colorado driver’s license (with CDL and Tanker endorsement preferred), with the ability to obtain required licenses within specified timelines. The job expects safe operation of tools and equipment, adherence to safety practices, and effective communication with staff and the public.
Required Qualifications
- One (1) year of experience in construction, general laborer, agriculture, or related field
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one within sixty (60) days of employment
- Valid Colorado Class ‘A’ Commercial Driver’s License, with Tanker Endorsement, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months from date of hire
- Equivalent combination of education, training and experience
