Job Summary
Maintenance Worker at Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority responsible for preparing housing units for occupancy and performing a wide range of maintenance tasks including cleaning, repairs, painting, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general upkeep. Duties include completing work orders, assisting with NSPIRE inspections, operating a variety of hand and power tools, driving AMHA vehicles, responding to service calls, leading a maintenance crew when needed, and ensuring safety practices are followed. Requires ability to read and follow instructions, communicate effectively, work independently and as part of a team, and obtain/maintain a valid Ohio driver's license. The role is Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm, at Akron housing sites.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalency (GED)
- Possession of a valid Ohio Driver’s License, a good driving record, and insurability
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to work well with others and function as a member of a crew
- Knowledge of and ability to follow safety policies, procedures, practices and regulations
- Ability to organize and plan the sequence of tasks
- Experience with general maintenance, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting and custodial tasks (broad knowledge preferred)
- Experience using power and hand tools (drills, screw guns, saws, pliers, etc.)
- Basic knowledge of and skill in applying plumbing, carpentry, plastering, painting, and general building maintenance methods
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and insurability
