Job Summary
Operate light and medium-sized construction equipment, including front-end loaders, mowers, and chain saws, while performing manual labor such as loading materials, landscaping, and maintaining street signs. Assist with utility line construction, equipment inspections, and routine grounds maintenance tasks like waste collection and debris removal. Work under minimal supervision with occasional exposure to unfavorable weather and physical demands involving lifting up to 100 pounds. Requires a valid Virginia driver's license and basic knowledge of OSHA compliance standards.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Virginia (VA) Driver's License
- Basic Flagger Certification (in-house) OR VDOT Flagger Certification
- Basic Work Zone Certification
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to maintenance experience
- Knowledge of general construction operations
- Knowledge of OSHA compliance standards
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact with supervisors, members of the general public, employees, Town Officials and others involved in performance of job duties
- Ability to assemble reports in a concise, clear and effective manner
- Ability to use independent judgement and work with little direct supervision
- Ability to operate a computer, and other office equipment needed to perform job duties
- Proficiency in various software, including Microsoft Office suite
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to drive and/or operate mechanical equipment
- Ability to sit, stand, walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to complete repetitive wrist, hand, and/or fine motor movement
- Ability to grasp, pull, push, climb, balance, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl
- Visual acuity of 20 feet or more
- Visual acuity of 20 inches or less
- Three dimensional vision
- Precise hand/eye coordination
- The ability to identify and distinguish colors
- The ability to identify and distinguish colors
- Manual/General labor of medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Some heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Must be able to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions
- Must have the ability to operate nonspecialized equipment in connection with manual tasks
- Must meet minimum experience requirements and certification/licensure requirements to be considered for applicable level
- Must obtain and maintain Basic Flagger Certification within 1 year from date of hire
- Must obtain and maintain Basic Work Zone Certification within 1 year from date of hire
- Must have satisfactory results of a criminal history check
- Must have satisfactory results of a credit history check
- Must have satisfactory results of drug/alcohol testing
