Maintenance Worker I - Part-time

Job Summary

Maintain preserve grounds, buildings, and equipment by mowing, edging, aerating, fertilizing, pruning, and controlling weeds. Gathers, loads, and hauls refuse and vegetation; inspects and repairs restrooms, playground equipment, and rental facilities. Locks/unlocks facilities for events, removes snow from roads, and performs asphalt patching or gravel maintenance. Operates District vehicles safely while splitting, loading, and hauling firewood. Inspects all areas for hazards, makes necessary repairs, and reports findings to the supervisor. Perform all tasks in compliance with safety manuals and wear required protective equipment.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to understand and follow both verbal and written directions
  • Experience with (or ability to learn) the use and maintenance of tools of the trade, both powered and non-powered
  • Good communication skills and ability to maintain good working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, volunteers, and the public
  • Ability to work independently in daily operations under general direction from the Site Superintendent, Grounds and Facilities Supervisor, or Maintenance Worker II, to exercise judgement in the performance of duties, and to identify and solve problems as they arise
  • Ability to maintain composure and self-control in difficult situations
  • Must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver's license at the time of hiring
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or the ability to become certified within 12 months of employment

  • Experience in a like position with similar duties and responsibilities preferred
